The LCIS Begins its Second Year!

The staff and board of the Lunenburg County Independent School are very excited to beginning our second school year.  The school has expanded to include grades 7, 8, 9 and 10 and we are thrilled to welcome our new students, to welcome back our returning students, to seeing new friendships blossom, and to continue to inspire joy in learning!

The diverse Waldorf-inspired curriculum includes the involvement of several teachers in subjects from math to handwork to entrepreneurship. Our lead teacher is starting off the year with an astronomy main lesson block. Other main lessons throughout will include botany, physics and Canadian history. Outdoor experiences and a dramatic production are incorporated into each school year. Beginning next weekend, LCIS students will be taking part in the youth film-making workshops offered through the Lunenburg Doc fest (www.lunenburgdocfest.com/), which will culminate in the screening of their short films during the festival on September 25th.

Community mentorship opportunities will be invaluable to the students as they continue to learn practical skills and different views outside the classroom as well as inside. There are two weeks in the spring dedicated to a practicum designed around an area of interest particular to each student. Community trades people, artisans, business owners, farmers and others interested in sharing their skills with an LCIS student are encouraged to contact us at Amanda@theLCIS.org
